Does NeverBounce remove spam traps?

Start with what a verifier sees. It connects to the mail server and names the address at the RCPT TO step. A pristine spam trap is a real, working mailbox that nobody ever signed up with, so the server answers 250, the same reply a customer's inbox gets. NeverBounce, ZapBounce and every other tool that reads that reply sees a valid address.

So a list that comes back from NeverBounce with every row valid can still hold traps. The five codes tell you whether the mailbox exists, whether the domain accepts everything, and whether the domain is a throwaway provider. They don't say who put the address on your list, and that's the question a trap is built to answer.

A recycled spam trap is a different case, and it's where regular verification does real work. A recycled trap starts as an abandoned mailbox that bounced for months before the provider switched it back on. If you verify before each send and delete the invalid rows, the dead address leaves your list during the bounce period, long before it turns into a trap.

The rest of the protection sits in how you collect addresses. Confirmed opt-in at signup keeps planted addresses off the list, a sunset rule removes contacts who haven't opened in months, and a typo check on the form catches misspelled provider domains. Our answer on removing spam traps sets out each rule.

If you're comparing tools on this point, compare what they return. ZapBounce returns four results, valid, invalid, catch_all and unknown, with role and disposable flags beside them, and it charges $5 for 1,000 checks with unknowns never billed. The ZapBounce vs NeverBounce page sets the two side by side.

Can NeverBounce detect spam traps?

NeverBounce's published result codes are valid, invalid, disposable, catchall and unknown, read on its developer docs on 24 September 2026. None of those is a spam-trap result. A pristine trap passes any SMTP check as a valid mailbox.

Which email verifier removes spam traps?

No verifier can find a pristine spam trap by SMTP, because the trap is a real mailbox that accepts the probe. Verification does remove the dead addresses that later become recycled traps. Confirmed opt-in and a sunset rule handle the rest.

What does a spam trap hit do to my sending?

A spam trap hit tells blocklist operators and mailbox providers that you mail addresses nobody gave you. Enough hits can land your domain or IP on a blocklist, and a free blacklist check shows whether that has happened.
