Why unknowns are not billed
It is a pricing decision that follows from the product argument.
An unknown is work we could not finish. The server throttled us, greylisted us, or refused to discuss recipients with a stranger, and we came back without an answer. That is a different thing from a catch-all, where the server did answer and the answer told us something true about the domain.
Charge for that and the honest verdict becomes the expensive one. Any vendor billing for unknowns has a quiet incentive to resolve ambiguous addresses to valid instead of labeling them, which makes the accuracy figure look better and your bounce rate worse.
Bouncer, Kickbox, Reoon and Emailable all decline to bill unknown results too. It is becoming the norm in this category, and the vendors who say nothing about it are worth asking directly.

A catch-all is billed because it is a real finding: the domain is configured to accept everything, and knowing that changes how you send.
Credits do not expire
Kickbox and Hunter both expire unused credits after twelve months. If you clean a list twice a year, that single clause can matter more than the headline rate.
Ours stay until you spend them. Buy for a migration, use half, come back next year and the rest is still there.

Is there a subscription?
Not at the moment. Credits are pay as you go, and the free tier refreshes monthly on its own.
Do credits expire?
No. That is a deliberate difference from Kickbox and Hunter, both of which expire unused credits after twelve months.
What happens if I run out mid-upload?
The job pauses rather than failing. Top up and it continues from where it stopped, and nothing already verified is charged twice.
Do you charge for catch-all results?
Yes, one credit, because a catch-all verdict is a real finding about the domain. Unknowns are different: there we established nothing, so there is nothing to bill for.
Can I get a refund on unused credits?
Credits never expire, so the usual reason for wanting one does not arise. If you need to talk about a specific case, write to us.
