Most email verifiers sell on the same promises: high accuracy, clean lists, a protected sender reputation. A promise is hard to test before you pay. A price, a billing rule and a method are easy to test, so ZapBounce publishes all three.
Start with the price. ZapBounce costs $5 for 1,000 checks, $25 for 10,000, $139 for 100,000 and $949 for a million. There's no minimum and no card for the free tier, which gives every account 100 checks a month.
Billing is just as plain. Valid, invalid and catch_all cost one credit each. Unknown results, duplicates in a batch and syntax failures cost nothing. Credits never expire, while Kickbox and Hunter both expire credits one year after purchase (both read on 24 September 2026).
As for the method, we run our own SMTP check on port 25 and close the connection before any message is sent. Every result carries the server's literal reply code, so you can audit how we read it.
What you can check before you pay
Start with your real cost: multiply your list size by the published rate, then take out the duplicates and the unknowns. That figure is what your invoice will show.
Next, check your own coverage by running the 100 free checks on a sample of your list. Your report shows what share got a definite answer, with the count for each result beside it, so you judge us on your data.
Then check our reading of any row: its smtp_code field shows the server's own reply. If a 550 comes back invalid and a 250 on an accept-all domain comes back catch_all, you can see that we read it right.
Finally, check what happens to your data. Uploads and results are kept for 30 days by default, and you can set that from zero to 90 days per API key. We never sell or share an uploaded address.
Five questions to ask any verifier
The short version
- Compare verifiers on price per 1,000 at your volume, credit expiry and what they bill for, all of which you can check.
- Use the 100 free monthly checks to measure coverage on your own list before you buy.
- Read the
smtp_codeon a few rows to confirm the verdicts match the server's reply.
Questions people ask
How much does ZapBounce cost?
ZapBounce costs $5 for 1,000 checks, $25 for 10,000, $89 for 50,000 and $949 for 1,000,000. There is no minimum. Every account also gets 100 free checks a month with no card.
Do ZapBounce credits expire?
No. ZapBounce credits never expire, so a pack bought for one campaign still covers the next. Kickbox and Hunter expire credits one year after purchase, as read on their sites on 24 September 2026.
What does ZapBounce charge for?
One credit per valid, invalid or catch_all result. Unknown results, duplicates in the same batch, syntax failures and sandbox calls are free. A catch-all domain is probed once and billed once.
Why publish the method as well as the price?
Because a method you can check turns a claim into something you can test. Each result shows the server's reply code, so you can confirm the verdict on any row yourself.
