ZapBounce and Outreach
Outreach is a management surface as much as a sending tool. Sequence performance, rep activity and reply rates are read by people making decisions about coaching and quota.
Bad contact data corrupts those numbers in a way that lands on individuals rather than on the data.
Bad data becomes a performance conversation
A rep working a territory with poor contact data shows a low reply rate. The dashboard does not distinguish that from a rep with weak messaging, and the coaching conversation starts from the wrong premise.
Outreach's A/B testing has the same problem. A variant tested on a segment with more dead addresses loses for reasons that have nothing to do with the copy, and the losing variant is retired.
At scale this compounds: decisions about messaging, territories and people are made on data that includes prospects nobody could ever reach.
How the data moves
Verify before prospects are loaded into Outreach
Prospects are the unit sequences and reports both operate on. Everything downstream inherits their quality.
Store the verdict as a custom prospect field
Outreach custom fields work in triggers and in reporting filters, so the verdict can both route and explain.
Exclude unconfirmed addresses from A/B tests
Otherwise the test measures list quality and calls it copy performance.
Report deliverable prospects per territory
That single number often explains more territory variance than any coaching hypothesis.
Setting it up
- Create a custom prospect field for the verdict and one for the check date.
- Verify prospects before they are loaded, whether through the API or an import.
- Add the verdict field to your sequence entry criteria.
- Exclude anything unconfirmed from sequences used for A/B testing.
- Build a report of deliverable prospect counts per territory and per rep.
- Re-verify the prospect base quarterly so the field stays meaningful.
Outreach: common questions
How does this change reporting?
It lets you separate a rep with poor data from a rep with poor messaging, which are currently the same number on the dashboard.
Should unconfirmed prospects be in A/B tests?
No. A variant tested on a worse list loses for a reason that has nothing to do with the copy.
Does Outreach verify addresses?
It records bounces after a send. The check before the send is what this adds.
