Is it safe to upload your list to an email verifier?

Ask any verifier four questions before you upload: how long it keeps your file, whether you can delete it on demand, who else processes it, and whether it ever reuses the addresses. A vendor that answers all four on a public page has put its answers where you can hold it to them.

ZapBounce keeps uploaded addresses and results for 30 days by default. You can set the window per API key anywhere from 0, which deletes the file when you download it, up to 90 days. Delete any batch at once with DELETE /v1/batches/{id}, or remove one address across your account with POST /v1/erasure. The data retention docs show both calls.

Your list is hosted in the United States and leaves that region only for the SMTP probe to the receiving mail server. Our sub-processors are Vercel for the edge and API, Amazon Web Services for storage, Cloudflare and Google for DNS resolution, and Stripe for billing. They're listed in our data processing terms, and any change is announced 30 days ahead.

ZapBounce never sells uploaded addresses and never adds them to a shared database. We never contact anyone on your list, and we never reuse a list to improve the product. The check itself sends nothing either: our SMTP handshake closes before DATA, so the people on your list don't hear from anyone.

The data processing terms form part of our terms of service, so they cover you from your first upload, and a countersigned copy is available on request. You can test all of this on 100 free checks a month with no card, then run full files through bulk verification at $5 per 1,000.

How long do email verifiers keep my list?

Retention varies by vendor, so read each one's terms before you upload. ZapBounce keeps uploads and results for 30 days by default, adjustable per API key from 0 to 90 days.

Can I delete my list after verification?

Yes. At ZapBounce you can delete any batch at once through the API, or set a key's retention to 0 days so the file is deleted as soon as you download the results.

Does an email verifier contact the people on my list?

A verification check sends no email. ZapBounce stops the SMTP handshake at RCPT TO and closes before any message data, so nobody on the list is contacted.

Where is my list stored during verification?

ZapBounce stores lists in the United States. A list leaves that region only for the SMTP probe to each address's receiving mail server, and it is deleted after 30 days unless you set a shorter or longer window.
