Kickbox review

Kickbox is one of the older names in email verification, sold as pay-as-you-go packs. This review reads Kickbox on its own pricing page, docs and terms: what a result means, what the Sendex score adds, and how the credits behave once you've bought them.

Four result classes, with risky doing the heavy lifting

Every Kickbox result lands in one of four classes. Deliverable and undeliverable are the clear calls. Unknown covers the addresses whose server gave no answer. Risky is the wide one: it holds accept-all domains, disposable addresses and role accounts like info@ or sales@ in a single bucket.

That grouping is quick to act on if your rule is simply "send deliverable only". It's harder to act on if you treat a role account and a catch-all domain differently, because you'll need the reason field to split them. ZapBounce keeps catch-all as its own result and returns role, disposable and free-provider flags on every row, so each rule reads one column.

What the Sendex score adds

Sendex is Kickbox's 0 to 1 quality rating. Kickbox's docs say it weighs how closely an address matches known patterns, whether the domain is free or commercial, and whether it's a role account. It sits beside the result, not in place of it.

You'll get the most from it on a signup form, where a low score can flag a throwaway address for review. On a cleaning job you'll mostly act on the result class. If a score is wired into your segments, note the thresholds before any move, since a 0 to 1 number doesn't port onto another tool's verdicts.

Pricing, and the clock on every pack

Kickbox prints its whole ladder: 100 checks free, $5 for 500, $10 for 1,000, $70 for 10,000, $500 for 100,000 and $2,999 for a million. You buy a pack, spend it and buy another. The full breakdown is on our Kickbox pricing page.

The clause to read is in the terms: credits "automatically expire one (1) year from the date of purchase" and are billed in advance and non-refundable. Kickbox and Hunter are the two vendors we name with a twelve-month clock. ZapBounce credits never expire, and the ladder runs $5 for 1,000, $25 for 10,000 and $139 for 100,000 on our pricing page.

Refunds on unknowns, billing on risky

Kickbox says unknown addresses don't count against your balance. That's the right call and it's now the norm across most of the market. Risky results are billed like any other verdict, so an accept-all address costs one credit whatever the outcome.

ZapBounce bills the same way on catch-all. One probe to a random address at the same domain proves it accepts everything, the row comes back catch_all, and it costs one credit. Unknowns and duplicate rows are never billed. Our note on what unknown means covers why some servers never answer.

Running a fair test of your own

Take 1,000 addresses you've already sent to, where you know which ones bounced. Run them through Kickbox's 100 free checks in batches, or buy the $10 pack, and run the same file on ZapBounce's 100 free monthly credits plus a $5 pack. Then compare each tool's calls against your real bounces.

Count coverage too: the share of rows that got a definite verdict. ZapBounce prints that number on every file. For the product side by side, read ZapBounce vs Kickbox, or see the wider field on Kickbox alternatives and the comparisons hub.

The scorecard on Kickbox

Both columns are required here. A page that only fills one is an advertisement wearing a review's clothes.

Where Kickbox is genuinely good

  • Unknown results are refunded, so an address nobody could resolve costs nothing.
  • Every pack price is printed on one page, from 500 up to a million.
  • The Sendex score adds a 0 to 1 quality signal beside the result, useful on signup forms.
  • Its terms carry a 95% deliverability guarantee on addresses downloaded as deliverable.

Where Kickbox falls short

  • Credits expire one year from the date of purchase, per its terms of service.
  • Credits are billed in advance and are non-refundable, so a balance left at the anniversary is lost.
  • Accept-all, disposable and role addresses share one risky class, so splitting them needs the reason field.
  • Pay-as-you-go only, with no subscription option for a regular cleaning schedule.

Questions about Kickbox

Is Kickbox a good email verifier?

Kickbox is a well-established pay-as-you-go verifier with four result classes, a Sendex quality score and refunds on unknown results, read on kickbox.com in September 2026. The trade-off to plan for is that credits expire one year after purchase.

What does risky mean in Kickbox?

Risky is the Kickbox class for accept-all domains, disposable addresses and role accounts. Risky results are billed. ZapBounce returns catch-all as its own result and flags role and disposable addresses on every row.

What is a good Sendex score?

Sendex runs from 0 to 1, and a higher score means a better-quality address by Kickbox's own pattern, domain and role signals. Kickbox publishes the inputs, so set your threshold on a sample of addresses you already know.

How long do Kickbox credits last?

Kickbox credits expire one year from the date of purchase, per its terms of service read on 24 September 2026. ZapBounce credits never expire.

Run 1,000 addresses you already know through both tools and count the definite verdicts. On ZapBounce, the credits you don't use wait for the next list.

We publish our own ladder

Every tier on one page, 100 free checks a month with no card, and an unknown result is never billed. Read it beside Kickbox’s, which we checked in September 2026.
